Pietro Aaron

A number of treatises have been published on CD-ROM. In addition to complete texts and illustrations, these contain complete digital facsimiles of all the sources that were used to prepare the digital editions. Also, there are more presentation and search facilities than on TmiWeb. The following CD-ROMs have appeared so far:

  • Gioseffo Zarlino. Music Treatises. Edited by Frans Wiering. TMI vol. 1 (1997).
  • Pietro Aaron. Complete Italian Treatises. Edited by Anne-Emmanuelle Ceulemans. Giovanni del Lago. Breve Introduttione di musica misurata. Edited by Paloma Otaola. TMI vol. 2 (2003) ISBN 90-393-3379-3.

TMI vol. 1: Zarlino

TMI vol. 1 contains the music treatises of Gioseffo Zarlino (1517-1590), the most important music theorist of the Renaissance. Two editions are included of the Istitutioni, the first of 1558, and the third of 1589, the last one published during Zarlino's lifetime. The Dimostrationi is also edited after its 1589 edition, which is remarkable for the complete change of the mode of discourse as compared to the first edition of 1571. The Sopplimenti is edited after its only edition of 1588. This CD contains the Panorama SGML viewer.

The manual and updated materials are available from the Download page.

TMI vol. 2: Aaron and Del Lago

TMI volume 2 contains Anne-Emmanuelle Ceulemans' edition of Pietro Aaron's five Italian music treatises (first published 1523-c. 1550), and Paloma Otaola's edition of Giovanni del Lago's Breve introduttione di musica misurata (1541). Complete facsimiles of all treatises are also provided, among which are all four known different editions of Aaron's Toscanello (1523, 1529, 1539, 1562). The 1529 edition was richly annotated and illustrated by a 16th-century owner. The CD-ROM contains the powerful DynaText SGML browser. More information and an order form are available in French and English.
